Doncha Hate…

some body part?

We all have parts we want to change. I have always wanted knobby, bony, scraped up knees. Instead I got the pillowy kind, more camel than gazelle (thanks, Dad.). And I feel frustrated by them. There are shoes I can’t wear and skirt lengths always need adjusting and when I’m wearing a dress, I always stand with my legs just so. And yet. I can run and jump and get through my class without pain (unlike one friend who, I was alarmed to learn, has already had two knee operations.) And that’s the thing, isn’t it? Nope, they are not pretty. But they work. And, especially as I get older, there is more and more beauty in that.
